Nubia Red Magic 3S review: A comfortable-to-hold device that won't exhaust you even after 2-3 hrs of gaming

The smartphone manages to deliver strong performance on long gaming sessions.

The trend of gaming-centric smartphones is catching up in India and to cash in on this trend, Chinese brand  Nubia has unveiled its Red Magic 3S smartphone. Priced at Rs 35,999 onwards, Red Magic 3S’ takes on the mighty Asus ROG Phone II (starting price Rs 37,999). Just like ROG 11, Magic 3S’ base variant provides 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage.
The Red Magic 3S is probably the thinnest gaming smartphone till date, measuring 9.65 mm on its thickest part in the middle and just 6.6 mm at its thinnest which is at the edges.
Its full HD screen display at a 6.65-inch is larger than ROG Phone II’s at 6.59 inches and has a 2340 x 1080 pixel resolution, a density of 387.5 ppi and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio.
The Red Magic 3S is comfortable to hold and even after 2-3 hours of continuous gaming, there is no sense of fatigue. The phone body is fingerprint and smudge-resistant.

The Red Magic 3S, contrary to the ROG Phone II, comes with an inbuilt fan. We played several high-end games on the device like Call of Duty: Mobile and PUBG Mobile at the highest possible settings and the whole experience was smooth, fluid and without any glitches whatsoever. The rendering of some in-game videos may be a tad slow, but the smartphone does the job well during 3-4 hour long gaming sessions.

The smartphone takes just under 90 minutes to get fully charged and battery drain is not sudden on Auto mode. However, it drains a wee bit faster on the other modes like CPU turbo, GPU turbo and Super modes. If you intend to play games for about 2-3 hours daily, the battery would easily last for a day. The battery did not show any huge drop in any of our gaming sessions.
